Crystal Palace full back Patrick van Aanholt claimed that former Eagles manager Alan Pardew tried to tap him up during a match while he was still a Sunderland player.
Patrick Van Aanholt, who joined Palace in a £14million deal from the Stadium of Light in the January transfer window, was admired by Pardew before his dismissal at Selhurst Park.
During a match involving Pardew’s Palace and Sunderland, van Aanholt claims the former manager made an audacious attempt to lure him south, with the pair in close proximity on the touchline.
‘I was playing for Sunderland when we were at home to Palace,’ the former Chelsea defender began recalling the incident which took place in the second half of the 2014-15 season.
‘Just as I was getting ready to take a throw-in Alan Pardew came along the touchline towards me and said: “Come and play for my team next year.”‘
‘In the middle of a game, eh? I found that really funny. Then I told him: “OK, no problem.”‘
