Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is planning to spend £115m on William Carvalho, Ryan Bertrand and Ben Gibson in an effort to turn Manchester City into genuine contenders for the Premier League title.

The Sun reports that Sporting Lisbon and Portugal midfielder Carvalho — who is valued at £60m — heads the list of targets and is seen as the long-term solution to City’s problems in central midfield.

And Southampton left-back Bertrand — who could cost up to £30m — and highly rated Middlesbrough central defender Gibson are wanted to shore up City’s defence.
