Tayfun Korkut has been appointed as Bayer Leverkusen’s new coach till the end of the season as replacement for Roger Schmidt.
Schmidt was sacked a day after losing 6-2 to Dortmund, a loss that left Bayer Leverkusen 11 points away from top four.
Korkut, a former Turkey international has the job of getting Bayer Leverkusen to Europe, a feat he can most likely achieve if he can succeed in motivating the squad.
However his most recent jobs don’t make it look like he’ll be made a permanent coach. He was sacked after spending less than a year-and-a-half at Hannover, with his last match a 4-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen.
Korkut also coached Kaiserslautern, a spell that lasted only six months before he resigned in December. He only won four matches in 16 games.
Julian Nagelsmann has been linked with taking the permanent role at Bayer Leverkusen, but the Hoffenheim coach will only be available at the end of the season.
I wish Bayer Leverkusen good luck in qualifying for Europe, as it will be a boost to a team that is known for their hardwork.
