Manchester United legend, Bryan Robson believes Micheal Carrick has earned a shot at playing one extra year at Old Trafford.
Carrick will turn 36 before the start of the 2017-18 season and having spent 11 seasons at the club, will have a testimonial in June.
However, Robson feels the former Tottenham midfielder still has plenty to give and Mourinho will benefit from handing him an extension.
“Michael’s 35 – for me, the way he’s played this season and the influence he’s had on the team has been pretty good,” Robson told Omnisport.
“I’m not bothered about the age, it’s about the desire of a player and how he looks after himself.
“So for me I think Michael deserves maybe another year and I can see Man United doing that.”
Carrick, who has started 12 league games this season, said this month that he would consider retiring if he is not offered fresh terms.
