Argentina Will Appeal Messi’s Four-Match Ban

FIFA dealt a four-match ban to Lionel Messi after ruling that the Argentina forward verbally abused a match official in a World Cup qualifying game against Chile last week.

Argentina’s national team secretary, Jorge Miasdoqui has confirmed that Messi’s four-match ban by FIFA will be appealed.

The punishment rules Messi out of any world cup qualifying match, until their final game against Ecuador. The announcement was made hours before Argentina’s match against Bolivia.

“We are surprised by the decision that has been taken,” Miadosqui said. “We are very angry because of the way it was handled hours before playing.

“We are going to appeal the FIFA sanction. There are previous [examples] to believe the punishment can be decreased.

“Messi is sad, as we all are. We do not agree with the way in which this was handled.”

Along with his ban, Messi was also fined 10,000 Swiss francs.
