Man Utd captain Wayne Rooney says he has decided to stay at Old Trafford.

“Despite the interest which has been shown from other clubs, for which I’m grateful, I want to end recent speculation and say that I am staying at Manchester United,” the striker said in a statement.

“I hope I will play a full part in helping the team in its fight for success on four fronts.

“It’s an exciting time at the club and I want to remain a part of it.”

The Chinese transfer window closes on February 28 and United manager Jose Mourinho said earlier in the week that he could not guarantee that Rooney would remain with the club.

Wayne Rooney still has 18 months on his contract and, with United still in the FA Cup, Europa League and the race for a top-four Premier League spot, Rooney has decided he is needed at Old Trafford.
