A 30-year-old man has been brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for allegedly raping and impregnating a 12-year-old girl in Lagos.
The suspect, Segun Posu, a brick layer, who resides at the Ikoga area of Badagry, in Lagos State, is being tried for rape.
During court session today, the prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, said that the offence was committed in October 2016 at the residence of the accused.
He also revealed that the accused and the victim lived beside each other’s house.
He said, “Any time the victim was sent on an errand, the accused would call her to his house, lure her to his room and rape her.
“According to the victim, she said that the accused had raped her on five different occasions.”
The court was made to understand that the victim’s guardian became aware only when she missed her monthly flow.
He said, “The victim told her guardian that it was the accused that had been raping her.”
Ogu said that the victim was confirmed pregnant at the hospital.
He told the court that the case was brought to the Welfare Centre in Ikeja and was referred to the court.
The offence violates Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count preferred against him.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Akanni adjourned the case to March 8, for mention.
