LASG Deploys 300 LASTMA Officers, Diverts Traffic Ahead Of Tomorow’s Access Bank Lagos City Marathon
Lagos State Government on Wednesday announced the restriction of vehicular movement in the major highways earmarked for the February 11 International Marathon scheduled to start by 6am at National Stadium, Surulere and terminate at the Eko Atlantic City.
Also, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olawale Musa, said that 300 officers would be deployed to different locations within the state to ensure that the restricted routes does not cause gridlock in the state.
Speaking on the restriction of movement within the state, Acting Commissioner of Transportation, Olanrewaju Elegushi, said that vehicular movement would be restricted within the axis to ensure a hitch-free exercise.
He said: “It is our plan to mount and deploy adequate traffic diversion signs and personnel to monitor and montage traffic. The Routes will be open as soon as the last runner leaves each point to ensure the traffic is not held for too long.”
To give fans the best of entertainment in Saturday’s Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, the organisers have lined up series of musicians for the event, which will hold this Saturday with top marathoners expected from different parts of the world.
The organisers of the event said they have lined up series of side attractions, including top musicians to thrill both the local and foreigners.
Speaking with The Guardian, the Chief Executive Officer of NILAYO Sports Management Ltd, Bukola Olopade, said that everything needed to make the event a memorable one had been put in place.
“It will be a world-class event and as we speak, a lot of top musicians from different parts of the country are already in Lagos for the event. Olopade, whose Marketing outfit is the official consultant to the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, said Lagos would host a tournament that the whole of Africa will be proud of.
“This year marks the silver jubilee of Lagos State, and the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon is one of the events lined up to celebrate the anniversary. It is going to be a big event, and people from far and near, including volunteers from the United States of America and the United Kingdom have started to arrive. I must thank the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, who is now the chairman of the Organising Committee, as well as the Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe for the good job they have done,” he said.
It was learnt yesterday that some of the musicians that will entertain the fans at Eko Atlantic City finishing point of the race include Davido, Olamide, Techno, Seyi Shay, Kiss Daniel, Koker, Small Doctor, Meirouge and Jire.
