Mr. Goodie Ibru has resigned as chairman of Ikeja Hotels Plc, barely two months after securing victory in court as the authentic chairman of the hotel group, amidst a bitter family dispute, involving Maiden Ibru, the wife of the late younger brother, Alex Ibru.
In a statement issued, Ibru, a recipient of the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger, said he decided to take the move in the interest of the company and the Ibru family.
In the statement, he anchored his decision on the need to get Ikeja Hotels to perform statutory functions, which have been hampered by multiple law suits filed by shareholders in the contest for the management and control of the company.
He stated that the decision of Justice Kafarati of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on December 21, 2016, confirming him chairman vindicates his struggle for corporate governance in the company and provides right timing for him to retire as founding chairman after 32 years in office.
The statement ended on the assurance that the company will in due course release further details of his retirement.
In January 2015, an Extra Ordinary General meeting, EGM, of Ikeja Hotels Plc had sacked Mr. Ibru as chairman and reconstituted the board of the company.
However, in December 2016, Justice Kafarati held that Mr. Ibru was the authentic chairman of Ikeja Hotels plc.
In his judgement, Mr. Kafarati said the actions taken at the EGM were “unlawful, null and void and of no legal consequence.”
