Frank de Boer Admits He Was Offered The Liverpool Job In 2012

Frank de Boer has revealed he was offered the chance to manage Liverpool in 2012 – but he did not feel the timing was right.

“I told Liverpool I was honoured but I was only one year in at Ajax, it was too soon. I needed to achieve more, and I did.”

Frank de Boer had a successful six-year spell with Ajax, where he had spent 11 years as a player, followed as he guided the club to four successive Eredivisie titles.

But De Boer decided to move on after being pipped to a fifth title by rivals PSV Eindhoven on the final day of the 2015/16 season.

An unsuccessful period followed in Serie A with Inter Milan that lasted just 14 matches and following that disappointment, the 46-year-old is looking for a fresh challenge.

Hull and Swansea are both understood to have previously made contact with the 46-year-old, while there were also offers from Liverpool five years ago and from Newcastle in 2015.

“I would love to manage here [in England] but the project has to be right,”
