Swansea City striker Fernando Llorente has revealed there was a possibility he could have joined Chelsea in January.
The 31-year-old was tipped to reunite with former Juventus head coach Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge, but he revealed the Premier League leaders failed to see through the deal.
Speaking after his side’s 2-1 defeat at Manchester City the 31-year-old said he understood why he could not secure a move away from the Liberty Stadium mid-season.
“I already know Conte from Juventus,” the Spaniard is quoted by thevDaily Mirror.
“But it’s difficult in the winter when there’s a way out from a side you’re playing for and it’s normal that they didn’t go ahead with the deal.”
“I’m very focused on the team and am looking forward to helping save us from relegation.”
“The last few games I’ve been happy with as we’ve gotten away from the bottom.
“It will be a very tough fight, though, and we hope to get further ahead when we face Leicester in a final next Sunday.”
Fernando Llorente has been in fine form since joining the Swans from Sevilla in the summer – scoring eight league goals, including braces in the wins against Liverpool, Sunderland and Crystal Palace.
