Fernandinho is in line to get to a new Manchester City deal, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The midfielder, who has been sent off three times in six games this season, sees his current deal run out in the summer of 2020.
The 31-year-old joined City in 2013 from Shakhtar.
“I am so happy with him and would be delighted if he continues for a long time here,” said Guardiola, who is likely to throw Fernandinho straight back into his starting XI for Wednesday’s trip to West Ham United.
“He’s one more year on his contract. It’s not just in my mind but the club’s mind.
“He’s so important for us and we have played a lot without him. I am happy he’s back. He’s not aggressive, he’s honest. He’s a tough, intense player like English football is.”
