Crystal Palace Manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed Patrick van Aanholt’s imminent arrival at Crystal Palace and revealed a bit more about the club’s transfer plans…
Sam Allardyce on Patrick van Aanholt
Patrick van Aanholt is having a medical today. It won’t go through until every aspect of negotiation, and what the medical might say (has been done). It’s in the process at the moment. I wouldn’t imagine (the heart issue) will be a problem. I’m sure the medical will be okay and he will be looking forward to joining us.
He was a major saviour in our run last season. He was a major part of that success story. His contribution, in terms of assists and goals, was massive. When it came to defending he got better with me and listened to what we told him about, where the weaker side of his game was and he made it stronger. Great energy, a very good player. He and Schluppy will increase the speed and energy levels of the squad. If everything goes well, I look forward to him joining me again here. I have to get the maximum out of his talent, because he is a great talent.
Sam Allardyce on Carl Jenkinson
Maybe. There are several we’re hopeful for between now and Tuesday, but there are many deals we haven’t got that we’ve tried to do, and I think this one – Carl – there has been a stumbling block. Whether that gets sort out, we’ll see. That has been the biggest blocker of transfers in this window, it’s become very expensive to do business in this window.

Sam Allardyce on Andros Townsend
A few clubs have asked for loans but, as we can’t get a loan in, I don’t see why we should loan anyone out. We’ve said ‘no’ for now. My focus is on people coming in, not going out. There’s nothing happening with Andros.
Van Aanholt started at Chelsea but was sent out on loan to five clubs.
He agreed a permanent switch to the Stadium of Light in 2014 and has made 95 appearances for the Black Cats.
