Barcelona legend Xavi has agreed a year’s extension to his contract with Qatar side Al Sadd.
The club said that the 2010 World Cup and four-time Champions League winner would remain in the Qatar Stars League (QSL) until at least 2018.
“Xavi had earlier joined the team at the start of the 2015/16 season after signing a two-year contract,” read the statement.
“With this extension, he is now set to complete three years at the club.”
Speaking after signing his new deal, Xavi targeted claiming some sliverware in Qatar after two trophy-less years so far.

‘I promise everyone that I will perform at the level expected of me,’ he told the club website.
‘I’m grateful to the club for extending my contract and I will work hard to win titles in the coming period.’
He went on to add: ‘Ahead of us is a tough game against Al-Gharafa on Friday which will be big test for the team as we look to get closer to the top spot. I hope the Al-Sadd fans will be there to support us.’
‘Al-Sadd is my beautiful family. I am enjoying myself playing here with this group of players. I repeat my thanks to everyone, the fans and the management, everyone who helped me.’
Since joining in 2015 Xavi has made 46 first-team appearances for Al Sadd and scored six goals.
