West Ham are set to launch an audacious bid to bring striker Jermain Defoe back to the club from Sunderland, reports The Sun.
The Hammers are reportedly readying a £6 million offer for the veteran marksman who started his career with the club.
Sunderland would understandably withstand West Ham’s attempts to snatch their main source of goals, but the Hammers hope Black Cats owner Ellis short may be tempted to get Defoe off the wage bill.
Despite his advancing years, he is now 34, Defoe has shown he still has an eye for scoring with eight top-flight goals to his name this term.
In a desperate search for a striker, West Ham have also expressed interest in Brentford forward Scott Hogan — though the Championship club are looking for more than £10million for the 24-year-old — and have also been offered Argentine Lucas Pratto from Atletico Mineiro.
