Sunderland forward Duncan Watmore has been ruled out for the rest of the season after incurring cruciate ligament damage

Duncan Watmore suffered the knee injury during last weekend’s 2-1 win over Leicester City in the Premier League and had to be stretchered off.

A scan on Monday revealed the extent of the damage, which will keep him out for the remainder of the campaign.

Black Cats boss David Moyes has already lost Paddy McNair and Lynden Gooch to long-term injuries.

Duncan Watmore went down following a challenge from Christian Fuchs, despite the Leicester defender appearing to win the ball cleanly.

The clash resulted in Watmore being stretchered off, and Moyes feared the worst for the 22-year-old after the match.

“It’s his knee. We’ll need to get it assessed properly and find out exactly what it is, but it doesn’t look good for him at the moment,” Moyes said at the time.
