The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared George Sekibo, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), winner of the rerun election in the Rivers east senatorial district seat, contested on the 10th of December.
Sekibo defeated his rival, Chief Andrew Uchendu of the All Progressives Congress, to claim the seat.

The returning officer for the senatorial district, Orji Onu Okumenkama, said Sekibo polled 93,098 votes to defeat Uchendu who scored 34,193 votes.
However, the win came with confrontation between the PDP members led by Governor Nyesom Wike and security operatives before the final result was declared at the Port Harcourt City Council Hall.
Mr. Wike mobilised his party members to the venue of the collation centre to demand declaration of the result. It was believed that they defied security operatives who were shooting sporadically.
It was learnt that there was a plot to change the result in favour of Mr. Uchendu.
The Punch gathered that a PDP collation agent, Chinyere Igwe, who is the State Commissioner for Urban Development, was arrested at secretariat by the police.
