Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has emerged as a January transfer target for Southampton.
Sturridge has found himself out of favour at Anfield this season with the majority of his appearances in the Premier League coming off the substitutes’ bench.
He has contributed goals in the EFL Cup and has found the back of the net on England duty but he is still without a goal in England’s top flight this season.
According to The Express, that has led to Southampton contemplating a loan bid for the 27-year-old with a view of a £25m move in the summer.
Despite the goalscoring exploits of Charlie Austin, Southampton have netted just 12 times in the Premier League this season.
West Ham, Stoke and Italian giants AC Milan have all also shown an interest in Sturridge, who has struggled with injuries throughout his three-year stay on Merseyside.
Puel is on the lookout for a new attacker after Graziano Pelle and Sadio Mane left St Mary’s in the summer – with the Senagal star joining Liverpool.
