Per Mertesacker hopes to extend his current deal at Arsenal, despite seemingly falling down the pecking order.
The defender has not played this season due to injury and, in his absence, Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi have excelled at the centre of defence.
There have been reports that Mertesacker could return to Germany when his contract expires next summer.
But he told Spox: “An extension at Arsenal is an absolute priority for me. But there are no agreements on a schedule for this at the moment.”

Mertesacker has been with the Gunners for five years, since arriving in August 2011.
