Injury prone Vincent Kompany is not injured and was omitted from the squad that played Netherlands as a precaution, according to Belgium coach Roberto Martinez.
Muscular problems have hindered the defender’s playing time with the national squad, with groin and calf problems keeping him out for up to 13 months.
The Manchester City man was replaced by debutant Christian Kabasele in the 1-1 draw against Netherlands.
“There is no injury to Vincent Kompany,” Martinez told reporters afterwards.
“We did not want to take any risks with him and Kompany did not feel well after the warm-up.
“I want every player to be 100 per cent. It’s too early to say if he will be ready for Sunday.”
The situation mirrors his removal at halftime in the 1-0 EFL cup loss to Manchester United, with manager Pep Guardiola confirming afterwards that the 30-year-old “told me he could not play anymore”.
