Manchester City have expressed a strong interest in Antoine Griezmann and are preparing a £70m bid for the France forward, according to The Mirror.
The 25-year-old striker has been a huge success since signing for Atletico Madrid from Real Sociedad in 2014 and was recently nominated for the Ballon d’Or.
He has a record of 65 goals in 120 appearances for the La Liga side and his form has also attracted the interest of Chelsea as well as City’s rivals Manchester United.
However The Daily Star report that sources close to Griezmann think that City would have the edge over United due to their ability to offer Champions League football.
Despite Pep Guardiola already having Sergio Aguero and Kelechi Iheanacho as forward options, City are allegedly ready to “break the bank” to sign the Frenchman.
Diego Simeone’s decision to reduce his contract has left a cloud of uncertainty over the manager’s future and with the Argentine such a popular figure among his players, Griezmann’s future has also been questioned.
Griezmann was top scorer at last summer’s Euro 2016 finals for France and under Simeone he has added an extremely hard work ethic to his brilliant technical ability.
