Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho is interested in signing Sporting Lisbon’s Portugal international winger Gelson Martins, who has a €60m (£51m) buyout clause in his contract at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, reports Spanish newspaper AS.
Martins is expected to feature when Sporting face Real Madrid in the Champions League tomorrow night.
The winger has risen up through the youth ranks to establish himself as one of the Sporting’s most important players.
And, according to The Sun, Manchester United and Chelsea have had their heads turned by his stunning form.
As well as the Premier League duo, scouts from Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also expected to be in attendance at the Estádio José Alvalade.
Sporting Lisbon are trying to renegotiate Gelson Martins’ contract to raise his buy-out clause from its current 60 million euros
Martins has made 14 appearances so far this season – and also appeared twice for Portugal in World Cup qualifiers against the Faroe Islands and Latvia.
The 21-year-old’s fine form has seen him likened to Portugal and Real Madrid legend Luis Figo.
United are keen to bolster their ranks after a difficult start to life under Jose Mourinho.
