Federico Macheda is set to have a trial with Serie B side Bari, says Sportitalia.
The former Man Utd forward, 25, is currently a free agent having left Cardiff when his contract expired at the club last summer.
Macheda, 25, saw a switch to Serie A side Pescara fall through earlier this year and was recently on trial at Watford, where he scored a penalty in a run-out for the Under-23s.
The striker’s fall from grace has hit a new low after he was dumped by Cardiff in the summer.
The ex-Manchester United striker, 25, had his Bluebirds contract terminated having scored just six goals in two seasons for the Championship outfit.
It continues a downward spiral for the Italian since bursting onto the scene for United seven years ago.
Aged just 17, Macheda wrote himself into Red Devils folklore by scoring a stunner against Aston Villa in April 2009 on his debut off the bench.
The forward followed up that super strike with a goal in the next league match against Sunderland.
But Macheda struggled to live up to the hype — netting only three more times for United as he was shipped out on loans to Italy, Germany and the English lower leagues.
