Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the first film in the Warner Bros. new franchise, is off to a stellar start as it earned $75 million in its opening weekend at theaters.

The studio spent $180 million to make the movie and decided to turn the proposed trilogy into five movies enlisting Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling to write the screenplay and bringing back director David Yates.

The movie topped Box office for the weekend but couldn’t hit the $85m mark Doctor Strange did in its opening weekend.

The wizarding film stars Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, It’s 1926 and he has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures.
