Ex-Real ‘keeper Bodo Illgner does not believe the European champions need to revive their interest in David de Gea.
De Gea was close to joining Real from Man Utd in 2015, before his move broke down in dramatic fashion on the last day of the summer transfer window.
Illgner, who won the Champions League during his time at the Bernabeu, is a fan of De Gea, but does not believe he is needed in the Spanish capital.
“I do not think that signing De Gea is necessary,” he told German website Real Total.
“The best [players] have to be at Real Madrid and De Gea is one of those. He shows it every week in the Premier League and in the Europa League.
“But I think that is it not worth investing so many euros on a position that is already very well covered.”
