Barcelona opted against making a move for 13-year-old Celtic sensation Karamoko Dembele after scouting him, reports Sport.
Dembele shot to fame last month after making his bow for Celtic’s U20 side.
Barca scouts discovered the teenager at several youth-team tournaments and Sport reports that the youngster was willing to play for Barcelona.
However Barcelona, who were subject to a FIFA-imposed transfer ban in 2015, decided against signing him in order to avoid the possibility of getting in trouble with FIFA once again.
He remained with Celtic however and has since burst into the spotlight for club and country.
Dembele made his debut for the Hoops’ Under-20 side last month and this week pulled on the dark blue of Scotland at the Under-16 Victory Shield tournament.
His international future remains in doubt however as he also trained with the England Under-15s and is also eligible for Ivory Coast.
Celtic now won’t let anyone close to the player. Both Manchester United and Manchester City are desperate to sign Dembele for their academies, but the Scottish champions have asked for FIFA to protect the young teenager after his appearances in the media.
Barça were the first club to move for him, though. Maybe in the future he’ll remember that they were the side that wanted to take a chance on him.
