Troops Intercept Suicide Bomber In Borno State

Nigerian Army spokesman, Colonel Sani Usman says that today at about 6.30am, Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole intercepted and neutralized a male suicide bomber at the outskirts of Maiduguri, Borno State.

The acting Director of Army Public Relations  said in a statement that the terrorist attempted to infiltrate the troops forward defences at Jidari Polo general area but was intercepted and his bomb with which he strapped himself with was detonated.

Usman said the terrorist came in through Alidawari village about 4 kms ahead of Jidari, strapped with a heavy Improvised Explosive Devices vest.

He said the vigilant troops, on sighting him, laid in wait for the intruder and then ordered him to stop. The insurgent, he said, refused vehemently to stop despite several warnings and challenges.

“A marksman neutralized the suicide bomber.  The combined team of the Nigerian Army and Nigeria Police Explosive Ordinance Device, safely detonated the IED-laden vest on the suicide bomber,” he said.
