Stoke City and England right-back Glen Johnson has been put forward as a low-cost potential January addition for Barcelona, reports the Stoke Sentinel.
The 32-year-old defender has been name checked by Mundo Deportivo in a cluster of right-backs who could fit the bill for Luis Enrique this winter.
Barca are thought to be after a right-back as they chase double glory in La Liga and the Champions League this season. (Occasional Stoke fan) Sergi Roberto and Javier Mascherano have both filled that role at times so far this term. Aleix Vidal’s future at the club is said to be in the balance.
Johnson has been included alongside players such as 34-year-old Darijo Srna, currently with Shakhtar Donetsk, and Juventus outcast Stephan Lichtsteiner, aged 32.
They write: “Johnson fits the same profile. He had a long career with Liverpool and now he’s at Stoke City, where his contract expires in 2017. Other veterans at this level have more draw backs because they have played in the Champions League this season are they are key men at their clubs.
“In that case are players like Pablo Zabaleta (aged 31, Manchester City), Branislav Ivanovic (32, Chelsea), Antonio Valencia (31, Manchester United), Rafinha (31 years, Bayern) and Bacary Sagna (33 years, Manchester City), now injured.”
Johnson is currently injured too, hoping to be back next month as he nurses a calf problem.
