Ryan Giggs has said he held several meetings to discuss becoming Swansea’s new manager, but the Welsh club did not match his “ambitions”.

The Manchester United legend was one of three pundits analysing England’s 2-0 win against Malta but prior to the World Cup qualifier at Wembley, presenter Mark Pougatch questioned Giggs about whether he was close to taking over from Francesco Guidolin.

“I was enjoying my year out, which was a bit of travelling and broadcasting, and I then got the call off Swansea,” Giggs told ITV Sport.

“I met with them a few times. But in the end there was just mixed messages from the football side and the ownership side of the club and I just felt that their ambitions didn’t really match mine so it didn’t work out.”

Following the depature of Guidolin, Swansea immediately announced Bob Bradley as his replacement and the American impressed at his official unveiling.
