At least 2,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) in Niger state.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that a former governorship aspirant and a caretaker chairman of Lapai local government area of the state were among the defectors.
Speaking at a ceremony held in Minna, the state capital, to honour the defectors, the leadership of PDM promised them an alternative platform to meeting the aspiration of the people for good governance.
While flaying at both the APC and PDP, saying they had failed the people of the state, the PDM assured that it will present a better deal for them.
Also speaking, the acting publicity secretary of the party in the state, Malam Ibrahim Muddasir, described the exercise as unprecedented in the political history of the state.
Muddasir also averred that the party would continue to maintain an equal and non-discriminatory rapport between all its members, including the new entrants, even as he urged them to join hand in the on-going effort to rebuild the party for future elections.
