Man Utd and Man City are both hoping to lure Barcelona forward Luis Suarez back to England, according to reports in Don Balon.
And it is believed the Red Devils are prepared to splash out as much as £135m on the Uruguay international, who they see replacing Zlatan Ibrahimovic with in attack at Old Trafford.
Suarez is currently in his third season at Barcelona but is yet to sign a new deal with the La Liga champions.
The club have already tied Neymar and Lionel Messi down to huge contracts and could be willing to cash in on Suarez who, at 29, is the oldest of Barcelona’s formidable front three.
Jose Mourinho is said to be a fan of the Uruguay international and is considering a bid at the end of the season should Suarez fail to agree a new deal to stay at the Nou Camp.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s form has waned in recent weeks – with the striker having scored just twice in his last 11 appearances – and Suarez could be the ideal replacement.
However, United aren’t the only Premier League side monitoring his situation.
Fierce rivals Manchester City are also apparantly weighing up a move to bring Suarez back to England amid Sergio Aguero’s uncertain future.
Aguero’s halo has slipped with City boss Pep Guardiola, who dropped him for recent clashes against Everton, Barcelona and United themselves despite scoring 11 goals in his first six games.
Club executive Ferran Soriano is said to have informed Barcelona that they would make an offer for the forward should the Catalan club suggest that they’re ready to sell their star striker.
