Jurgen Klopp says Steven Gerrard is “always welcome” at Liverpool, after some fans believed the midfielder had hinted at an LA Galaxy exit.
Gerrard’s contract with the five-time MLS Cup winners expires at the end of the season, with Galaxy playing their final regular game of the campaign today having already booked a play-off spot.
And some took a post on the 36-year-old’s Instagram account as a goodbye message when he was actually addressing the Galaxy supporters ahead of the club’s planned fan appreciation night tonight.
The post read “Living in Los Angeles and playing for the great Galaxy supporters has been a privilege. You have made this place feel like home to me. This city and this club will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you #8.”
Klopp was asked about the topic later in the day, following his side’s 2-1 win over West Brom, saying: “Steven Gerrard is always so welcome at Liverpool FC.
“You cannot imagine how welcome. So, absolutely no problem. But everything that we have already or will speak to each other stays in this talk.
“That is how I know Stevie and that is how I am. But nobody should worry that we have no space for Steven Gerrard. No – everything will be fine, 100 per cent.”
