According to a recent report, Wayne Rooney has emerged as a shock target for Inter Milan.
The Manchester United skipper has been told to find a new club if he wants guaranteed first team football.
And with his prospects at Old Trafford looking increasingly bleak it would appear clubs are taking notice across the globe.
Sven Goran Eriksson is interested in taking the England captain to China and is ready to tempt him with a mega-money offer.
But, according to Calciomercato, Serie A giants Inter are also monitoring the situation and would be interested in doing a deal next summer.
The report says Inter are planning a huge overhaul of their attacking players in an attempt to cut costs.
The Italian club currently have Mauro Icardi, Eder, Rodrigo Palacio, Gabigol, Stevan Jovetic, Antonio Candreva and Ivan Perisic all on their books.
It is said if some of these players can be moved on then a deal for Rooney could be possible.
The 31-year-old has reportedly set his sights on becoming the club’s record goalscorer, with him needing just two goals to surpass Sir Bobby Charlton’s tally.
Rooney is under contract at Old Trafford until June 2019 and would reportedly command a fee in the region of £27million.
He has made 537 appearances for the Red Devils since joining from Everton in 2004, scoring 248 goals.
