A 70-year-old herbalist, Alidu Afolabi, on Tuesday was arraigned by police before a Chief Magistrate Court in Ibadan, Oyo state for defrauding two brothers of N18m.
Afolabi, a native of Ibadan was charged with two counts of obtaining money under false pretences and stealing. The prosecutor in charge of the case, Inspector Sunday Ogunremi told the court that the herbalist obtained the money from two brothers, Rasheed and Dauda Alimi.
“Afolabi collected the money from the two brothers who allegedly wanted him to perform money-making rituals for them to double the money for them” He said. He also added that the offence was committed sometime in April at about 10am the house Afolabi occupied in Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
Inspector Ogunremi said the offence contravened sections 390 (9) and 419 of the criminal code cap 38, Vol. II, laws of Oyo State 2000.
The accused pleaded not guilty to all the charges. He was granted bail in the sum of N9m by the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Abiona Richard as she adjourned the case till November 21.
