Sam Allardyce lost his job as England manager after a Government minister phoned the FA to demand what action was being taken.
The Sun on Sunday reports sports minister Tracey Crouch called FA chief executive Martin Glenn in the wake of reports linking Big Sam to corruption.
The call came after pressure mounted on Allardyce after he was caught in a newspaper sting telling undercover reporters how to get around rules on third party ownership.
“After Sam’s meeting was made public there was Government contact and that put massive pressure on them to take action,” an FA source told the newspaper.
“They wanted to know about the reports of corruption and how it was being tackled.”
