Argentina defender Ezequiel Garay has described leaving Real Madrid as the best decision of his career.
Garay joined Real Madrid in 2008 but managed only 31 appearances in three years at the Bernabeu before moving to Benfica.
He is now back in Spain after signing for Valencia on transfer deadline day and admits he is glad he left Real earlier in his career.
“I respect Real Madrid a lot as an institution, but the best decision of my career was leaving the club, because what a footballer likes is playing and I did not play,” Garay told El Desmarque.
“I do not regret it and you only have to look at the three-and-a-half-years that I experienced at Benfica after Madrid, they were spectacular.”
