Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 43 abducted persons with over 500 cows recovered from the confinement of fleeing militants of Boko Haram sect in Mafa.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said the army secured the rescue of the victims after eight suspected Boko Haram terrorists abducted some cattle rearers and livestock at gunpoint at Dalakalari general area, Mafa Local Government Area.

According to him, following ‘tip-off’ from well meaning citizens on Sunday morning, the military then swung into action and pursued the terrorists.
On sensing danger, the insurgents fled and abandoned the cattle before Panamru village. The troops were able to rescue 43 persons and 500 cows taken by the terrorists.
The victims and the recovered cows have been handed over to the local authorities.
