Napoli are keen on signing Mancheter United full-back Matteo Darmian, according to reports in Italy.
Reports suggest, the Serie A club want Darmian to replace Faouzi Ghoulam, who will be away with Algeria at the Africa Cup of Nations in January.
Napoli were thought to be interested in the Italy international during the summer transfer window.
The full-back was a regular under previous Red Devils boss Louis Van Gaal, playing 39 times in all competitions last season.
But he has but has found playing time limited since Jose Mourinho’s arrival in the summer, featuring once in a 1-0 loss at Feyenoord in the Europa League.
Reports claim the Italian’s relationship with Mourinho has now completely broken down.
He is thought to be looking for a way out in the January transfer window.
Italian journalist Niccolo Ceccarini says the defender could return to Italy, with Napoli interested in bringing him in.
Darmian had been linked with a move to join up with his former national team boss Antonio Conte at Chelsea.
But Ceccarini told radio station Radio Punto Zero that Napoli have jumped to the top of the queue and will make a bid in January as manager Maurizio Sarri is a big fan of the defender.
