Liverpool are maintaining their pursuit of summer target Mahmoud Dahoud by sending scouts to watch the midfielder in action for the Germany U21s against Finland in Seinajoki tonight.

According to German newspaper Express, Jurgen Klopp has stepped up his interest in the 20-year-old Borussia Monchengladbach star with a view to making an improved bid next summer.

Dahoud was the subject of major interest from the Reds during the summer transfer window, but remained with Borussia Monchengladbach beyond the August 31 deadline.

This came due to Gladbach’s reluctance to part with the 20-year-old following the sale of Granit Xhaka to Arsenal.

Dahoud is currently in the final two years of his contract with Gladbach, and despite talks ongoing throughout the summer, he has shown no sign of extending his terms.

In fact, as Tony Barrett, formerly of the Times, has revealed in his first column for JOE.co.uk, Dahoud shares an agent with Reds midfielder Emre Can.

Liverpool have met with Reza Fazeli on a number of occasions throughout the summer to discuss an improved contract for Can, and their positive relationship has ensured that are in the “box seat” when it comes to signing Dahoud.
