African fashion is a global
phenomenon. It has taken the centre stage in the world of fashion where we were often given the back seat.
ground breaking and bold fashion innovations to internationally recognised acts using design pieces by our indigenous fashion designers. This journey to greatness is just beginning.
The “Designers spotlight,” an
initiative of BlackNBold Fashion House focuses on designers, their passion, their struggle, their designs and showcases African fashion in a bigger picture to the world.
In the first edition we will
be doing a spotlight on Sly Monay, a Nigerian based designer that caters to both male and female fashion. A true African designer who infuses bold elements of ‘ Africanness’ into his designs.
Monayajo Sulaimon Ayoola is a native of Ogun state but was
born in Lagos.
his O’ levels degree from Sound Hope British Canadian Academy in Lagos. He travelled to the UK afterwards for his A levels at Holborn College London. He also has a Bsc degree in Accounting and Economics and an MBA degree from Cardiff University in Wales.
most fashion designers, fashion started for this young designer at a very early age and we are really proud of his journey so far. His inspiration came from wanting to project the African culture, style, innovation and taking fashion to the next level.
Sly Monay has styled notable
celebrities in Nigeria, some of which are Desmond Elliott, Ayo Makun, Ali Baba, Bryan Okwara, Oc Ukeje, Joseph Benjamin, Juliet Ibrahim, Kenneth Okoli, Adesua Etomi, to mention a few.
He was amongst the few
Nigerian designers that showcased at the recently concluded Africa fashion week London AFWL 2016 which took place at the Olympia West hall, Kensington London where he debuted “ The CRAVAT masterpiece: Afro European collection” which was another ground-breaking collection by an African fashion brand.
the first ever designer to infuse Cravat wearing on African and native attires. The Cravat is a Neckband that is usually worn by Europeans even before the introduction of modern tailored neck ties.
We have no doubt that this is
yet another designer that will dominate the Nigerian fashion scene in the coming years.
