5 Movie Sequels Of 2016 You Should Watch

share on:

A lot of movies have been heavily promoted this year. Some are making it to the big screens for the first time while others are a continuation of blockbusters that have grazed the screens.

Quite a number of movies will most likely get lost in the shuffle because they are making their way back as a sequel.

Nonetheless, there are some amazing movies making their way back to the screens as continuation of some pretty amazing prequels. Some of these movies have the potentials to be great and there is a likelihood that you missed out on them.
Here are 5 movie sequels that made it to the cinemas this year.

Bridget Jones’s Baby

Bridget Jones Baby
It’s about fifteen years since we got introduced to the funny and irrepressible Bridget Jones character. We all loved her for her foul mouth, penchant for wine, and constant dieting. Renee Zellweger , Colin Firth and Hugh Grant starred in the first movie and went on further to reprise their roles in Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.

They are back one more time with Bridget, who is now in her forties and still single. She however finds herself entangled in a Web of love and an unexpected pregnancy which happens to be the main focus of this sequel. The film appears to have deviated from the books as Bridget is happily married in the third novel on which the films are based to Darcy and is apparently struggling with being a widow and single mother. We hope the charm of the titular characters are retained.

Ride Along 2

Ride Along 2 is a follow up to the 2014 movie, Ride Along which starred Kevin Hart (Ben) and Ice cube (James). Both actors reprise their roles of Ben and James. This time around, the friends are headed to Atlanta to tackle a drug supply chain. The twist in the story is that Ben’s wedding to Angela (Tika Sumpter) is close by and both Groom and Brother in-law have to do all it takes to make it back in time for the ceremony.

Viewers should expect hilarity and ridiculous behaviour at its best given the comic characters of Kevin Hart and Ice Cube. The only slack in the whole thing is that the original Ride Along movie received less-than-wonderful reviews and we hope the sequel improves in that regard.

John Wick 2

John Wick 2
Keanu Reeves is back as ex-hit-man John Wick in this sequel following fast on the heels of the 2014 action flick John Wick. This sequel will see John Wick explore his past as an assassin and how he struggles to reconcile the John who craves for a happy family and the John that is a talented and ruthless killer. A sojourn into John’s past means the sequel will be making a return visit to some of the fictional locations from the first movie, especially the killer-friendly Continental hotel.

The first movie was one movie goers appreciated even though it failed to become a blockbuster. This follow up might just be what the film needs to break out and become a franchise.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2

The third in a list of comedy franchise of the same name, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is expected to pick up in real time with the characters of Toula (Nia Vardalos) and Ian (John Corbett) reprising their roles. They now have a teenage daughter who is causing them all kinds of trouble and the whole gang from the prequels are back to create and even more ridiculous show.

Barbershop: The Next Cut

Barbershop: The Next Cut marks Ice Cube’s second return to the screen in 2016. The movie continues ten years after where we left of with Barbershop 2: Back in Business. Calvin (Ice Cube) is the new owner and his team are dealing with a whole new set of problems ranging from combining his shop with a women’s salon and a less than friendly neighborhood. He also has to juggle these problems with raising his son.

This and more should make the next installment as heartwarming and character driven as the first two, while bringing laughter and an unmistakable focus on community and family.
