There’s no doubt at all that 2016 as been the movie year for a lot of film houses. From science fiction flicks to romantic comedies and animated animal tales, it’s definitely going to be a tough ride for the judges of the Oscars as a lot of movies are in contention for the top awards.
We’ve seen quite a number of good movies released in the first and second quarters of 2016 which have done well at the Box office and we wait to see if the movies scheduled for release in the last quarter of the year will be able to upset the success of those released earlier in the year. Here are 4 movies that will definitely give others a run for their money.
This Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow flick is scheduled to be released on September 9 and it stars Tom Hanks as American pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger who captains US Airways Flight 1549 departing from LaGuardia Airport.
Barely three minutes into the flight, disaster strikes, as the Airbus A320 hits a flock of geese, which cripples both engines of the A320. Captain Sullenberger is forced to land the aircraft in the Hudson River and spares the lives of the crew and passengers which makes him an automatic hero.
His life however takes a different turn when reporters and investigators force Sully to put his job, family and reputation on the line.
This movie is a sequel to the 1999 horror-mystery classic of the same title. The story follows a group of college students who venture into Maryland’s Black Hills Forest to uncover mysteries surrounding the disappearance of one of their companions – James’ sister, who many believe is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch. As the group hunt for clues, they are visited by a menacing presence which turns them from being hunters to the hunted. This Adam Wingard-directed movie stars James Allen McCune, Corbin Reid, Wes Robinson, Valorie Curry and is scheduled to be released on the 16th of September.
Bridget Jones’s Baby
Bridget Jones’s Baby is an upcoming 2016 British romantic comedy film that sees stars Renée Zellweger and Colin Firth, returning to their respective roles of Bridget Jones and Mark Darcy, as well as Patrick Dempsey as a new character. It will be the third film in the franchise and a sequel to 2004 film Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. This time around, Bridget is pregnant and unsure whether the father is returning actor Colin Firth or new addition Patrick Dempsey. Sharon Maguire is once again on the directors’ chair with Emma Thompson and Jim Broadbent also starring in the movie.
The movie Snowden is scheduled to be released on the 16th of September and it stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as NSA leaker Edward Snowden, Shailene Woodley as his girlfriend Lindsay Mills, and Zachary Quinto as journalist Glenn Greenwald.
The film is based on the story of Edward Snowden, an American computer professional who leaked classified information from the National Security Agency to The Guardian in June 2013. Nicolas Cage, Melissa Leo, Tom Wilkinson, Scott Eastwood, Timothy Olyphant, Rhys Ifans and Joely Richardson also star in this political thriller movie.
