A Tribe Called Quest Set To Release New Album – Iconic hip hop group, A Tribe Called Quest will be releasing their first album in almost 18 years.
This was revealed by Chairman and C.E.O of Epic Records, L.A. Reid, who was speaking with Elliot Wilson and Brian “B. Dot” Miller for Rap Radar’s podcast.
“We have A Tribe Called Quest album coming,” he says. “I’m really excited about that. It’s an album that they recorded before Phife passed away. And I’m really happy about it. It’s really something special.”
The group was originally made up of MC and producer Q-Tip, MC Phife Dawg and DJ and producer Ali Shaheed Muhammad. Phife Dawg, whose real name is Malik Taylor, died in March 2016 after complications from diabetes.
“We have a long relationship,” Reid says of Q-Tip, whose decision it was to make the album. “Q-Tip is a real friend, man. We didn’t hang out and take pictures and act Hollywood. He’s a real friend, you know? And he’s made some incredible music and I love it. And Phife is there. Jarobi—the whole group. The entire group. It’s great, too.”
A Tribe Called Quest’s last project was 1998’s The Love Movement, and Reid has told fans to expect the new album very soon.
