American singer, Janelle Monae, had the first edition of her “Fem The Future” brunch where she provided an amiable atmosphere for industry players to come together and chat about the importance of having females in the entertainment industry and how to get more females aboard.
The event was held at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden in New York, Saturday, August 27, and had its roll call include, Cori Murray, Essence Magazine’s entertainment director, Nigerian music star, Tiwa Savage, blogger Luvvie Ajayi and Nigerian/American singer, Jidenna, amongst others.
Some favorite quotes of the event included, “God is a woman”, “When my sister doesn’t advance I don’t advance”, “We are not interested in fighting the old, but on building the new”.
Tiwa Savage who offered to be contacted if they needed her for any help whatsoever rocked a white loose shirt on black palazzo pants and strap heels.
Jidenna wore dark blue pants with a white top bearing an ankara pattern on the right hand and collar paired with a waistcoat.
Lupita Nyong’o wore a patterned grey and brown dress while the host, Janelle Monae kept to her black and white trademark with a matching patterned top and pant.
