Pep Guardiola has told Samir Nasri he is allowed to stay at Manchester City, despite rumours linking the French midfielder with a move away from the Etihad.
Samir Nasri was heavily criticised during pre-season by Pep Guardiola for reporting back to training overweight and unfit.
Samir Nasri having failed to make a single matchday squad so far this campaign, the 29-year-old retired French midfielder was a surprise inclusion on the substitutes bench when Manchester City took on West Ham on Sunday.
Nasri came on for the final 15 minutes of the game – which ended in a 3-1 victory for the current Premier League leaders.
He came close to scoring, and Guardiola said after the game that Nasri had proven himself enough to stay at the Etihad.
The Catalan coach said: “It depends on the player, but he can stay. Samir arrived overweight, but after one week, 10 days, it was fantastic how he trained, how he competed. His quality is on another level, but it depends on him.”
