Jared Leto Praises Heath Ledger’s Joker – Actor Jared Leto plays the role of the Joker in this month’s Suicide Squad, and he has a lot of praise for the man who played the role before him.

The role was last played by late actor Heath Ledger in 2008’s The Dark Knight, who died shortly after the movie and was awarded a posthumous Oscar for his performance in the movie.

“Not only was he perfect at the Joker — perfect — there’s not a single frame where he’s not great,” Leto told GQ. “It’s probably one of the best performances, not just of a villain, but maybe one of the best performances on film, period.”

Leto revealed that he had tried to watch violent videos to try and understand the character, but stopped after they began to affect him mentally.

“There was a point where I was researching violence and was watching a lot of things that … it’s arguable if anybody should even see,” Leto said. “And I noticed that started to have an impact on me that I didn’t like, so I stopped.”

Leto however added that he thought the Joker wasn’t such a bad guy. “He finds things funny that other people will never. Like death. And one of the things I really loved about the Joker is that he’s an entertainer.”
