An Inspector of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and his lover, a member of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), were found dead in an apartment belonging to the policeman at Ezinifite Okpuno village in Awka South LGA, Anambra State on Sunday.
It was gathered that the father-of-three and Ifeoma, a mother of five, died from the fumes of a power generating set, while having a jolly time together.
It was also learnt that the policeman’s family lived in Lagos, while Ifeoma’s family stayed in Awka.
A source who seems to be on the know, revealed that Ifeoma had told her husband that she was attending a church vigil, only to end up in her lover’s house, nearby.
The eyewitness said:
“The woman spent the night with her police lover, but both did not wake up until a labourer, who was to work for the deceased policeman, came in the morning and discovered their bodies. On discovering the bodies, the labourer rushed out and alerted neighbours.
“The neighbours followed the labourers to the apartment and confirmed the incident before a relative locked up the compound to prevent the large number of people trooping access to the apartment.”
Another source said:
“There was the sound of a small generator throughout the night in his apartment. But at about 4am, it went dead; maybe the fuel got finished.”
“The policeman lived on the third floor of the house. As a policeman, he hardly stayed around, but each time he was around, everybody would know, because he would run his generator all through the night. Everybody called him ‘Officer’, but I think he was an inspector.”
Speaking on the incident, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Office, ASP Nkeiru Nwode said:
“I have not yet been fully briefed on the story. As soon as I get the details, I will communicate with you, please.”
