Serena Williams is at the top of the world when it comes to professional women tennis, but does she stand a chance if she has to play against men? Billie Jean King thinks not.
In the words of the former World number 1, “No. Depends how low you go but not the top ones.”
In an interview with TMZ sports, King agreed Serena was on top of her game as she was playing better than she ever had.
King said, “Yeah. She seems happy again which is good.”
When asked, “Do you think she could beat, that is, if she could hang with the boys, could she beat some of the men?”
King answered, “No, not the top men, no.”
When pushed further for an explanation she added, “No. We never said we are better than men or it’s good or anything. We just say ‘we are very entertaining, sometimes, more entertaining’.”
Billie Jean explained Serena Williams could ‘probably’ play against the bottom rudder – which would be like the ‘bottom’s bottom’ – but for the top echelon, that would be impossible.
King said, “Depends how low you go, No. Not the top ones. Because we don’t have energies like the guys have. It’s because of testosterone and all that. They’ve done all kinds of study on it now.”
Billie Jean King is an American former World No. 1 professional tennis player. King won 39 Grand Slam titles, including 12 singles, 16 women’s doubles, and 11 mixed doubles titles.
Do you agree with Billie Jean King or you have faith Serena could stand against pro men tennis players?
