Online social networking giant, Twitter, has on Monday morning suspended the official account of the Niger Delta Avengers (@NDAvengers), militant group in Nigeria.
The suspension is coming barely hours after the militant group confirmed online a string of attacks on oil facilities belonging to the NNPC and Chevron Nigeria Limited within the Niger Delta region.
The rationale behind the suspension may not be unconnected to the usage of the micro blogging site by the militant group as a medium to peddle its heinous activities.
The NDA’s Twitter account, when visited on Monday morning, read:
“This account has been suspended,” asking users to “enter a topic, @name, or full name.”
Meanwhile, an official statement has not been issued in connection to the account suspension by either Twitter or the Niger Delta Avengers militant group.
The group has been responsible for the recent major attacks on oil facilities in the Niger-Delta region.
Following one of Twitter account suspension rules, “once an account engages in abusive behaviour, like sending threats to others or impersonating other accounts, we may suspend it temporarily or, in some cases, permanently.”
