Two Actors (Leo Mezie and OJ Blaq) – Mezie from Nollywood and Blaq from Ghallywood, are currently ailing with kidney failures.
Juliet Ibrahim and Stella Damasus are among the first set of stars to herald the campaign #SupportToSaveALife as other Nollywood and Ghallywood stars intend to get involved in an attempt to raise funds for them.
Ms Ibrahim said she had been contacted through her foundation, The Juliet Ibrahim Foundation about both cases.
She said of Leo Mezie whose case is advanced kidney failure, “Please let us help our colleague in the little way we can and I pray for the best.”
While adding for OJ Blaq who is down with temporary kidney failure, “I was contacted recently about my Ghanaian colleague who’s currently suffering from a temporary kidney failure.”
Prior to his failing health becoming public knowledge, Leo Mezie had been shouldering the responsibility of undergoing dialysis every week on his own.
Now, he needs financial assistance to the tune of around N10m for an immediate kidney transplant abroad.
The Ghanian Actress, stated that everyone especially her colleagues in the industry can render help to Mezie and OJ Blaq as she pleaded with them to assist in any way they can.
Just as Nigerian actress, Stella Damasus expressed concern over the cause or causes of kidney failures which seem to affect men especially those in their industry.
Damasus said, “We need to find out what is causing these kidney failures. I don’t know why it is attacking the industry like this. We should ask their doctors if they are able to trace the real cause because I am worried that this will spread among others. God help us all.”
Last week, Nigeria lost one of its best producers, OJB Jezreel who also had kidney failure prior to his death.
If the industry stands united, they’ll rally and offer help to both men.
